Mt. Elgon is a stand alone hunk of a mountain and long extinct volcano that bears a striking resemblance to Mount Ventoux, the legendary Tour de France climb. With the largest surface area of any extinct volcano in the world (50km by 80 km, Mountain Elgon is the forth highest mountain in East Africa and with the second highest peak in Uganda. (Wagagai peak 4321 meters).

It was built in 1922 at about 50,000 British Pounds. Clock Tower in Mbale is a striking landmark of the town, known for its chaotic driving, but the center of the town that everyone knows about. Iconic in its pink african glory. The clock tower was historically known to be part of the British Commonwealth heritage site with a ringing bell.

Remember Mbale district is the mother district of the newly created districts of Bulambuli, Sironko, Manafa, Bududa. All these districts ably supply Mbale central market which is stunningly stocked with garden fresh vegetables, foodstuffs and spices. Other districts such as Pallisa, Kapchorwa, Bukwo, Kween, Butaleja Tororo, Budaka supply this market.

Lake Bisina is a freshwater lake in eastern Uganda surrounded by Kumi, Katakwi and Soroti districts. It is also known as Lake Salisbury. It is connected upstream via a wetland to Lake Opeta and drains into Lake Kyoga. Lake Bisina is one of Uganda's 33 Important Bird Areas and since 2006 a Ramsar-listed wetland of international importance.

Nkokenjeru ridge is a distinctive finger of the forest extending outward from the main massif of Mount Elgon. It lies at an elevation of 2347m and covers a 25km - long tongue of lava that flowed out of the side of the volcano after the cone collapsed to block the main vent.

The Nyero rock paintings are located in eastern Uganda in Kumi District, 8 km west of Kumi town.The Nyero rock paintings are among the most important rock art in Uganda.
The rock art sites are believed to have been sacred places of the gods. The red and white paintings remain valuable to the people of Teso but are also mysterious since the painters are unknown. In the past, the Iteso people of Nyero would sacrifice and pay offerings to the gods for problems of rain, misfortune, blessings and child bearing (Nyero 3).
Individual and clan prayers were held on a seasonal basis. Oral history has recorded strong attachment to sites though people were stopped from praying in the 1970s by the Government at the time. Traces of smoke from sacrifices are still visible in some of the caves. The association of a sacred prayer place in the buffer zone continues to draw nearby communities to the site.
